BUILD FESTIVAL STRUCTURES WITH MEDITERRANEAN CANE

6-Week Cane Construction Program at ZNA Gathering 2026

Join us this summer for a hands-on, immersive experience in cane construction. Work together as a team to build festival structures, learn modular building techniques, and explore the creative potential of this remarkable natural material.

This year we will be creating three chill-out areas, along with decorative arches for the bridge and festival entrances, using pre-made arches adapted in new ways for the festival landscape.

• PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Together we’ll build several unique festival structures over six weeks. Participants begin by learning and working side by side, while former students are welcome to return to deepen their practice and support parts of the process by helping guide new participants and coordinating small aspects of the build.

SETUP > Monday 1 June – Saturday 11 July > 6 weeks (Max 8 Places)

FESTIVAL > Wednesday 15 – Wednesday 22 July > 1 week

DISMOUNT > Thursday 23 – Wednesday 29 July > 1 week (Max 8 Places)

• CONTENTS:

Weekly Focus:

Week 1 – Unpack, sort & clean materials, & repair damaged arches
Week 2 – Connect & bend arches
Week 3 – Mount arches & start building structural nerves
Week 4 – Start mounting & continue building nerves
Week 5 – Complete nerve mounting, refine structures
Week 6 – Cloth and shade installation, finishing touches

Optional Takedown Week:

• Stay an extra week after the festival to help disassemble structures

– DISMOUNT > 1 week > min 40 hrs > – 100 € (+Food during the festival)

• PROGRAM

Monday-Friday > 8:00 am – 1:00 pm and 2:30 – 5:30 pm

Saturday > 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

• FOOD 

– 3 meals and a snack: Breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch and dinner will be provided each working day.

> Please specify in the inscription form if you are vegetarian, vegan, omnivore, or if you have any food restrictions.

• ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be camping next to Lake Montargil, a beautiful spot with sand beaches, where the ZNA Gathering festival production site is located. Here you will need your own, individual or shared, tents and camping gear.

Showers and latrines are provided, but there is no hot water, and electricity is limited to a few charging stations only, so please bring essential electrical devices only, thank you.

> It’s possible to come with caravans and vans.

> Sorry but animals are not welcome.

• WHAT TO BRING

– There can be strong sun, cold and wind and it can also rain. According to the rain intensity, we can continue working, so it’s necessary to bring adequate clothes (see below).

– We discourage you to bring more electronic devices that are absolutely necessary, since electricity is limited.  

– Tent, sleeping bag and ground mat

– Resistant boots, trousers and coat. 

– Both Strong and fine work gloves

– Sun hat, sun glasses, sun screen, repellent, etc.

– Water bottle or thermos, according to your needs

– Personal hygiene items (towels, shampoo, etc., all you need daily)

– Torch

– Knife if not traveling by plane (with pliers if possible)

– Notepad and pen/pencil

– Your own WiFi if you need it (there is none available)
